Without adequate shelter, outdoor cats are at greater risk of respiratory/pneumonia infections; frostbitten/infected ears, paws, genitals and other body areas; and injury from seeking shelter in dangerous areas such as in vehicles. All of which can easily result in slow and painful death. By providing shelter for outdoor felines, you can help prevent such a horrible fate. All living creatures deserve shelter, nourishment and compassion.
PNF will construct and distribute completed shelters as materials/funds are made available. A completed shelter is a thick Styrofoam cooler with contact paper lined interior, 4-6" pine chip or straw bedding, one 4"x4" opening, sealed lid and painted exterior with printed message: "SHELTER For Cats/Kittens. Please DO NOT REMOVE from this location. Contact (your name/#) or PNF Feline Rescue of KY. Thank you." A rock(s)/brick(s) should be placed on top of the shelter to provide the weight needed to keep the shelter secure in wind (creek rock can be provided for this purpose if you request it). Shelters vary in size, but generally provide space as: (X-Large: 6-8 <10lb cats ; Large: 4-5 <10lb cats ; Medium: 2-3 <10lb cats or 1 momma w/ 4+ kittens ; Small: 1-2 <10lb cats or 1 momma w/ 1-3 kittens). A $5.00 donation per shelter is requested to help offset some costs of construction/distribution. If you are financially unable to provide a donation, please provide a brief explanation that a waived donation is needed to help the cat(s) in your area. (Pictures of constructed shelter's will appear here) To be placed on the distribution list, receive more information, or arrange a monetary/materials donation to benefit the Winter Housing Project, please complete and submit the following: |
